WEEDEATER, SAVIOURS and BLACK COBRA will be embarking on a European Co Headline Tour this summer. In the mid-1990's, Weedeater arose from the ashes of the southern-drug-lord-band Buzzov-en, who had disbanded along the swampy shores of the Cape Fear river in North Carolina not too long before.
Fronted by famed madman and bass virtuoso "Dixie" Dave Collins, this
three piece doom juggernaut has been eating audiences alive for more
than 10 years now.
Formed in 2004, Saviours are the end product of a “vision-quest” by
guitarist/vocalist Austin Barber and drummer Scott Batiste. An ipecac
reaction to the sorry state of heavy music, they aimed to assemble an
epically heavy, crushingly loud band that would reinvigorate their love
for excessive volume. The band’s home base of Oakland, long since a
hotbed for landmark metal and crust bands such as El Dopa, Neurosis,
and High on Fire, provided the decay and terror necessary to fuel such
an effort. Inspired by ’70s doom, NWOBHM, power metal and ‘90s black
metal, as well as that which informed West Coast hardcore punk and
skate culture (think Black Flag and groups like BL’AST! and Poison
Idea), Saviours fortify the positions originally suggested on their
debut EP Warship and first album Crucifire with Into Abaddon, its
punishing riffage and Barber’s venomous lyrics leading the charge.
Rounded out by Drunk Horse bassist Cyrus Comiskey and D. Tyler Morris
on second guitar, Saviours provoke a violent response to all in metal
that does not ring true.
Smashing up from the Bay Area underground, Black Cobra is ready to take
the heavy music world by storm! Formed in 2002 by Rafa Martinez (Acid
King, -16-) and Jason Landrian (ex-Cavity) this duo has been laying
waste to audiences, taking on all comers, and leaving the remains to
rot in their wake. Their sound is a crushing mix of High On Fire-tinged
stoner metal and Buzzov*en's Southern-fried sludge, with a heaping dash
of Melvins-style drone to wash it all down.
Live they are a beast like no other. Like their namesake, Black Cobra
is at once hypnotic and whip-crack fast. Their two-man assault sinks
its fangs into you before you even know what's hit you. They are a
touring machine, having hit the streets with everyone from High on
Fire, The Sword, and Saviours to Torche and Genghis Tron.
